Tasty and Memorable Iisalmi

Date created 17.04.2026

On 7–9 April 2026, teachers from Valgamaa Vocational Education Centre participated in a learning mobility in Iisalmi, Finland במסגרת the Nordplus Junior project NPJR-2025/10025 “Traditional Flavours with a Modern Twist – Preserving and Reinventing Classic Recipes.”

Together with partner institutions – Rēzeknes Tehnikums and Ylä-Savo Vocational College – the participants focused on modernising traditional dishes, practical learning, and sharing the food cultures of different countries. During the mobility, they became familiar with the Finnish vocational learning environment, took part in practical cooking lessons, and discussed how to connect traditional recipes with contemporary trends and a sustainable mindset.

For Valgamaa Vocational Education Centre, such international experiences are also important from the perspective of the Green School principles. Special attention was given to the use of local and seasonal ingredients, sustainable working methods, and reducing food waste. In this way, the mobility supports the development of environmentally conscious thinking and helps bring sustainability principles into everyday teaching.

International cooperation enriches teaching, broadens horizons, and brings new ideas into learning by combining traditions, innovation, and an environmentally sustainable way of thinking.
